Kossak Square
Student project, 2003
Kossak Square is an area in the center of Krakow, near the Wawel Castle.
The assignment required creation of an interesting public space, re-designing all communication routes and inclusion of an underground garage.
Main goals to achieve were:
- changing the use of the square from parking to a new interesting public space
- creating new additional commercial space and replacing the existing pavilions
- creating new communication scheme.
Additionally the designers had to take into account that the square is surrounded by modernistic architecture and what is more, the historical castle, the most widely recognized building in Krakow, can be seen from it.
The project began with a visual and landscape assessment and a tree survey. Next stage was making new hard and soft landscape scheme for the place.
The underground garage project included designing the construction which was shown on plans and cross-sections.
